Field Health Pictures!

One of the classes we took recently was Field Health. We learned how to diagnose and treat health issues missionaries would run into over seas. We needed to learn to know if the illness or injury was something we could treat ourselves or if it was something we needed to get outside medical help for. For some missionaries in the remote tribal locations a medi vac ususally involves calling in the mission plane to fly them out or a 6+ hour boat ride down the river to the nearest town.

Here's Joe one of my fellow students teaching us how to take vital signs and respritory counts.

(thanks to Kayla for the picture!)
Then we got to practice on each other.
Practicing on each other!
Next was learning to wrap sprains and strains.
Erin showing us how to wrap injuries.

Being silly and and wrapping Meridiths legs together. She thought it was funny anyway. =)
Then it was learning what a "normal" inner ear looks like and what an infection would look like using an otoscope.
Katy checking out her husbands ears.
Even sweet baby Hudson joined us.
We learned to hear different sounds in the lungs.
Listening to lung sounds.
And last but not least we learned how to measure and give injections. This was by far the most nerve racking because we actually practiced jabbing someone!

I should have worn my long johns....

The temp was negative something a week ago today as I walked to class. I quickly realized I should have worn an extra layer under my jeans! It was pretty chilly!

But i couldn't help but take my camera, walk slowly and enjoy the beauty that God had provided.

The past couple days here have been in the 50-60's so unfortunately most of this lovely white blanket is gone and replaced with a mushy brown. =(

The 50s now feel like short weather and i'm realising how I'm missing the warmer temperatures.

I hope you all are having a fabulous Wednesday!

Some of your Facebook feeds missing?

The “New Facebook” has a newsfeed setting that by default is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people who you’ve recently interacted with or interacted the most with (which would be limited to the couple of weeks just before people started switching to the new profile). So in other words, for both business and personal pages, unless your friends/fans commented on one of your posts within those few weeks or vice versa – you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!
Here’s how to fix this problem!

Scroll down to the bottom of the newsfeed on the homepage and click on “Edit Options”, click on “Show Posts From” and change the setting to “All Of Your Friends and Pages” Note: This is the fix for personal pages but I am unsure of whether or not the business pages are set up the same way.

Thanks Rockin' Deals.

Hurricanes / Blizzards

The year Geoff and I got married we were living in Florida and the state got direct hits from four major hurricanes! We learned to "hunker down" as they say and wait out the storms. So this snow business is a whole new ball game for us.

One of my small group leaders sent out the cartoon above. heehee!

Making Good Choices?

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13–14

"Sometimes people who have known the Lord for a while get bored. They think, "There's gotta be something more, something better, something different." Having Jesus in their life doesn't seem as exciting as it was. And off they go in search of some kind of unbiblical extravagance to satisfy that itch. To that, the apostle Paul posts a big warning sign in Philippians 3:13-14:

"(Forget) what lies behind and (strain) forward to what lies ahead... I press on!" Instead of longing for more or better or different, God calls us deeper and stronger. Philippians 3 continues, "hold true to what we have attained" (v.16).

Choosing joy every day involves holding fast to God. Keep depending on Christ. Do you still lean on Him as completely as when you first came to the Cross? Is every step with God one of dependence and faith? What uncertainty lies ahead? What obstacle are you being called to conquer right now? Do you want joy amidst those challenges? Say, "I can't do it, Lord; only You can do it in me."

What do you need to do today to regain lost joy? Stop trying so hard in your own strength to be what God wants you to be and move back into that dependent, Christ-centered approach to life. Remember that the same way you came to the Lord is also how you'll grow in Christ (Colossians 2:6–7).

Want more joy? Get back on the track of desperate dependence on God and abiding faith."

Getting Ready...

This is the training that we are going through right now!

It's exciting to see missionaries who are on the field reflecting back on the training they received here and saying it's important, beneficial and has made a positive impact on their ministry.

I'm so thankful for all the teachers and staff here who are pouring their talents and their lives into our lives to insure that we are equipped and ready to go.

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:37-38

Did you know?

"How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?" Romans 10:14-15

It hasn't stopped snowing all day...

Taken at 2:45pm. The snow is still falling.

February 1st!

Welcome to February friends!

The world is awakening here in the Ozarks to a fresh blanket of snow this morning! We're not the only ones, many of you will be too!
We get a SNOW DAY!

A snow day is perfect since three out of four of us are fighting a cold.

It looks like Ruth escaped just in time before the sickness hit. She and I drove to St. Louis Friday night since her flight left early on Saturday. We had a great talk on the way. Since Ruth's birthday is coming up but she wouldn't be here to celebrate we celebrated early. We went out for dinner and went to see Narnia in the theater. It was a fun night.

Saturday I drove home to my BOYS! So good to hug them again even though i was only gone for one night. I missed them!

What would you do with a snow day?
