I'm Grouchy

The health invader, i mean visitor, came by this after noon.

After waking Ethan up in the middle of his nap and giving me a lecture on the dangers of him sleeping on his tummy we weighted him and he's up to 15 pounds 10oz. He was 7lbs 9oz when he was born.

She ended up waking Elijah up too, with her loud voice. He was taking a rare nap that he needed because he was tired and grouchy this morning.

I should have counted how many times she mentioned the fact that we are so "isolated" out here and that we need to join a play group because it would be good for Elijah to "socialize" and for me to meet people around here. I'd say Elijah is fine at socializing and i have plenty of people in my life, thank you very much!

She has a way of making me feel like a complete idiot. And then she went on about getting Elijah signed up for school now. I didn't bother to tell her that we are planning on homeschooling. She already thinks we're nuts.

I just smiled and nodded and told her what she wanted to hear.

I'm sure she's a nice lady and she's just doing her job.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm not grouchy anymore. =)

I hope you all had a good day!

You handled it with grace, dear friend. However, I'm a bit mad that she woke the boys from their naps! What kind of social/health worker does that?

Ugh. I'm sorry you had to deal with it. At least it's over and done with now!

You just keep on smiling, Melissa. I'm so glad that you've decided to homeschool. That stuff about socialization is just a bunch of bunk. We hear that all of the time and we don't live in an isolated area. We hear it simply because we homeschool, and my boys have plenty of friends. The best thing is that they can socialize with people of all ages and not just the ones in their peer groups. God bless you!

I am sure that kind of thing is on it's way here too! Just can't trust that parents might know what's best for their own children....

my baby has slept on his tummy since he was 3 weeks old, it's the only way he's comfortable! He's 7 months old now and even if we lay him down on his back he always rolls back over onto his tummy!

Thanks for stopping by!
I have homeschoolers in my family: the families of my 2 brothers, sister, and 2 nieces. Those kids (some of them aren't kids anymore!) are doing quite well socially. There are other ways to gain social skills besides going to school.

You Rock! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!

Your boys are so well socialized because they are around all ages and have parents, grandparents, aunts, cousins and uncles who adore and care for them.

Anyone who reads here can see that.

Phooey on the nosy, noisy, interfering lady.

Love Ya!

Keep up the good work.

I think that you handled the situation gracefully. If someone were to wake my cranky sleeping toddler, I might have pounced them, literally. I was home yesterday with my little girl because she is having some tummy trouble (too much cheese..) and the phone rang. I wanted to pick it up and ask them why they would call during nap time ;O) I didn't, she kept sleeping.

I'm sure that living in a different country has many challenges. I would not like a health visitor coming to my home. I just wouldn't. And about the socialization issue, just how has socialization honestly helped our children over the past 100 years?? I ask you ;o) (my mom and I have spent countless hours talking about this because we just don't get it :o) ) They learn plenty from their family and friends and church...

Anyway.. Vent away dear friend... It always makes one feel better... You are a good mommy!

Just reading the first line of this post I started to laugh...and then get mad! I could hear you say that first line with the "saracastic" voice we usually never hear! You did well, I mean you know what I told you I would do if a lady ever came to my house to check on my kiddos. Kudos to you and blessings for putting up with that. And I am glad you did not bring up homeschooling. I would hate for them to say you could not. Love you!
