Painting TShirts, A Fun and Easy Craft

Hobby Lobby came to town this summer.
This is great news!

Last week the boys and I were enjoying an afternoon out together.
We were browsing around Hobby Lobby when Elijah found these cute robot stencils.

We thought it would be fun to make matching t shirts for our weekend. So then we had to find the fabric paint. When we saw the glow in the dark fabric paint the decision was made!
We picked out black shirts to help the light colored paint show up better.

We put cardboard in between the front and the back of the shirt under where we were going to be painting.
This is a very important steps as it keeps the paint from gluing the fabric together.

I taped down the stencil and they got to work.

After we did the robot we took the stencil off and they painted what ever they wanted to on the rest of the shirt.
Ethan said he was making "ants" here. =)

I moved the shirts to the living room under the fan and they were dry in a couple of hours so the boys got to try them on the same day!

They proudly wore them to St Augustine the next day.

It was a really easy and rewarding craft.

To wash I turned the shirts inside out to put through the washing machine and then line dried them. I wasn't sure what the hot drier would do to the paint. I was afraid it would soften it up and all stick together.

What do you think? Think it would be safe to put through the drier?

Homemade Sidewalk Paint

I saw this recipe for sidewalk paint on Pinterest and the boys and i tried it out on Saturday morning.

       Homemade Sidewalk Paint:
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 6-8 drops of food coloring

Elijah had fun measuring everything out and mixing it up.
 Our colors!

Everything's more fun when you get to use a paint brush!
I had to tell Ethan not to paint the kittens a time or two. =)
It would also work well on car windows since it washes off so easily.
