A New School Year and a Fence made of Windows

This will be our fourth week of school. We decided to start early. The boys were getting bored and I like to get a head start so we can take some time off later. Geoff's sister Rachel is coming to visit in February for a couple weeks and we won't be doing school then.

Elijah's enjoying reading more this year. It's been a hard struggle for him but I've seen a big improvement this summer. He's reading Owl at Home here.

The boys love the math manipulatives... they make great swords and battle axes. ;)

We've started sitting on the floor to do most of our school. It's not the most comfortable for me but it seems to help Elijah since he has more freedom to move. And I don't get frustrated with telling him to sit still in his chair all the time.

This week we've started taking a walk before starting school. Elijah rides his bike. The theory is to get some energy out before starting school. At least we get some fresh air and I want to get in the habit of it before winter comes and it'll be really important to get out of the house each day.

Today we walked by this house in our neighborhood that has a beautiful garden. Most of the plants are edible. There's squash under the sunflowers in the photo below.

Their fence is made out of old glass windows. It's pretty cool!

Their rhubarb is taller than Ethan. Taller than even his unbrushed hair! :)

Ethan lost his two bottom teeth last week!

Well, a friend just texted and wants to know if we can meet at the playground down the street this morning.

YES! Homeschooling can be put aside for now to go meet our friends. Love that!

Have a great day!

Good for you! We are in our third week. The best thing about homeschool is that boys can wiggle and sit on the floor, and ride a bike for exercise and meet a friend at the playground!

You're doing wonderfully well, Melissa!

I enjoyed this peek into your homeschool, Melissa! It looks like you are a very wise teacher-mama!

Thank you for the encouragement ladies!
It took me long enough to finally realize we should just sit on the floor. :)
