How to hide the Nav Bar

I love getting questions from you, my dear readers. They let me know what's on your mind and give me ideas for posts.

One of the questions I've received is how to hide the navigation bar along the top of blogger blogs. You may or may not have noticed that mine is gone unless you scroll over it and then it magically reappears! Cool huh?

For those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about here's a picture of the nav bar...

I didn't want to remove it completly since i use it to sign in to my blog, i just wanted it not to be there when people visited my blog.

Here is how to hid it...

1. Log in to Blogger
2. Go to Layout
3. Click on "edit HTML"
4. Save your template on your computer before making any changes, just in case of an error.
5. Check the box that says "Expand Widget Templates"
6. Find the line that says "body {" in your code (hit control + F to easily search for this)
7. Paste the following code ABOVE the "body {" code
#navbar-iframe{opacity:0.0;filter:alpha(Opacity=0)}
#navbar-iframe:hover{opacity:1.0;filter:alpha(Opacity=100, FinishedOpacity=100)}

8. Preview your work
9. If all looks good, save your template

Now i can't take credit for this at all. I'll point you to where I learned it.

Kathleen at Katydid and Kid has fun and simple tutorials on improveing your blog in a technical way. It was also on her blog that i learned how to number comments and add a signature to automatically sign the bottom of posts. Next i want to try adding a menu bar at the top of my blog. We'll do that when i'm feeling more adventurous. I'm kind of afraid of messing up the whole thing and not being able to fix it!

Have a great weekend you all!

Thanks Melissa! I hid mine also and it looks so much better. I love the KD&K site and was able to add a signature too! I'm going to look around her site some more.

We had the Bible study group here tonight and it felt odd not having the Gills! Don wanted us to show someone new to the group Max's trick. We all laughed remembering how long Geoff would make the poor dog wait......wait........wait....LOL. I miss having Elijah too. He was such a good little guy, playing while we had the discussion.

Anyway, you were all missed. Tell "Big E" that Max misses him and is waiting to give him a big slurpy doggy kiss!
