The Loveliness of Christ

My sister in law, Rachel, sent me this beautiful little book for my birthday. The Loveliness of Christ by Samuel Rutherford. It's amazing! This man had such a heavenly perspective that people who observed him walking said he held aye his facc upward.

This book is a collection quotes and excerpts from his letters. Sanuel Rutherford was a contemporary of Shakespeare who lived in the 1600’s. He first became a Professor of Humanity and then at 27 served as a Pastor of a small church at Anwoth, Scotland. A minister said of him, “He seemed to always be praying, always visiting the sick, always catechising, always writing and studying.”

It says in the prefatory note, “This book, a small casket stored with many jewels. Nothing is more need in our day in the Christian church than a larger sight by faith of ‘the King in His beauty.”

I was blown away on page one by the first the very fist paragraph. It really spoke to me. It read,
"The Great Master Gardner, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, in a wonderful providence, with his own hand, planted me here, where by his grace, in this part of his vineyard, I grow; and here I will abide till the great Master of the vineyard think it fit to transplant me."
